The Problem
American Academy of Audiology hosts a poster gallery every year at their annual conference. This gives students, young professionals, and researchers the opportunity to showcase and present new research to their colleagues and peers in the audiology industry. The posters are also judged onsite, and there is a student award funded by Audiology’s Foundation that is given onsite. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, AAA had to cancel their face-to-face conference and move everything online.
The Solution
During this process, AAA Education and Meetings Manager, Natalie Bisbee, worked with her team to think globally about their conference. “We thought about was scheduled to happen onsite and how we could translate that to an online experience,” says Bisbee. The Poster Gallery was an essential part of the experience, they decided, so they contacted CadmiumCD, their Digital Poster Gallery vendor and started working on how to create a virtual experience for attendees.
The Outcome
AAA used CadmiumCD’s eventScribe ePoster Gallery to build a Virtual Poster Hall that rivaled the onsite experience. Natalie says that attendees can peruse the poster gallery online and that presenters still have the opportunity to showcase their research. Presenters are also using the new audio recording feature in the Conference Harvester to record their presentations, as well as uploading videos so that attendees can engage with the full experience expected of a conference poster hall. “We’ve also saved staff time since everything is uploaded online and presented on the website,” says Bisbee.
